Trai concedes rejecting IUC by one year to January 2021

New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Tuesday conceded its choice to scrap interconnect use charges (IUC) by one year to January 2021. Therefore, administrators will keep on winning 6 paise a moment for each versatile call they get on their system till 31 December, 2020.

"Based on remarks got from partners recorded as a hard copy and during the open house discourse, and its very own examination, the Authority has recommended the modified date of materialness of Bill and Keep (BAK) system i.e.zero end charges in regard of remote to remote household calls w.e.f first January 2021 through these Regulations," Trai said.

Rejecting the IUC or decreasing it would profit an administrator with more friendly traffic than approaching calls.

The most recent move will come as a help for Bharti Airtel Ltd and Vodafone Idea Ltd, which win a bit of their income from IUC as their approaching traffic is higher than active and were against the rejecting of IUC. Jio, then again, needed the charge rejected. As of June-end, 64% of Jio's absolute traffic was active.

Trai on 18 September had glided a crisp conference paper to check whether there was a need to overhaul the material date for rejecting IUC, given the proceeding with awkwardness in between administrator traffic.

IUC, at present set at 6 paise a moment, is collected by versatile systems taking care of approaching calls from rival systems. In September 2017, Trai had requested a decrease in IUC to 6 paise every moment from 1 October 2017, from 14 paise prior and a conclusion to it from 1 January 2020.

Local telecom administrators, previously reeling from a savage value war that began with the passage of Reliance Jio in September 2016, were hit hard by the request on IUC.
