Narendra Modi degree push: DU school says it has no information of understudies going out in 1978

The discussion over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree will not fade away. Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL), from where he is said to have gone out in 1978, says it doesn't have records for that year as these are kept up just for one year. 

In light of a RTI inquiry by an IANS reporter looking for a rundown of understudies who had equipped for a BA degree in 1978, the SOL stated, "The information isn't kept up in the branch in the request as wanted by the candidate." 

Answering to two different inquiries on the consequences of understudies who qualified for a similar degree in 1978, including their move numbers, names and father's names, the SOL stated, "No such rundown is kept up in the branch. According to weeding principles of the college, save duplicates of the distributed outcome is kept distinctly for one year." 

Data Denied Citing Invasion of Privacy 

A united answer from the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO), Meenakshi Sahay, on a similar question stated, "The data looked for by the candidate was supported to the Dean (Exam), OSD (Exam), Joint Registrar (Degree) and Section Officer (Information) of the University, who are the esteemed PIOs under segment 5(4) and 5(5) of the Right to Information Act, 2005." 

"Further, pertinent information, got from the Dean (Exam), OSD (Exam), Joint Registrar (Exam), demonstrates that the University, generally, treats the information of the understudies relating to the assessment taken by them while seeking after a course in the University as close to home to the understudies concerned which can be unveiled uniquely to the understudy concerned," she included. 

"The divulgence of such data has no relationship to any open movement or intrigue. Revelation of such data is absolved under segment 8(1)(j) of the Act," she further said. 

The cited exception in area 8(1)(j) says: "Data which identifies with individual data the exposure of which has no relationship to any open movement or intrigue, or which would cause ridiculous intrusion of the protection of the person" The college's assessment branch III (I) and IV answered in comparative vein. 

"It gives the idea that the data looked for by the application is to such an extent that it is treated as close to home data of understudies, having a guardian connection with the University." 

CIC Directed to Provide Information, Dismissed 

Prior, the Central Information Commission (CIC) had coordinated the college "to encourage assessment of important register where complete data about aftereffect of all understudies who go in Bachelor of Arts, in year 1978 alongside move number, names of the understudies, father's name and checks acquired as accessible with the University and give affirmed duplicate of the concentrate of significant pages from the register, free of expense". 

The CIC had likewise slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the CPIO for dismissing a RTI application looking for subtleties of Modi's graduation degree. Data Commissioner M.
